Our current culture thinks the Bible is “dated” and that only “some” of its principles apply today.
And when it comes to marriage – society screams “love is love” and encourages people to marry whomever they want.
However, God’s design for marriage was laid out from the beginning of time – and it hasn’t changed. But are you holding fast to what you know is true?
“He answered, “Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female, and said, ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’.” Matthew 19:4-5
While God’s Word is abundantly clear that He created each of us male and female – and that a man should only marry a woman – somehow, this long-standing truth has fallen away.
And even many Christians who profess Christ believe same-sex marriages are “okay”…
… although it’s a clear violation of Scripture.
According to Pew Research Center – 27% of Evangelical Christians “strongly favor” same-sex marriage, with 57% of Mainline Protestants claiming they “strongly favor” such practices as well.
But how can self-professing Christians show they are not like the world – if they are promoting same-sex marriage?
Christians are supposed to be salt and light to a dying world.
And while everything we do should be done in love – we cannot neglect truth.
It’s a lie to tell people they can “choose their own gender” or “marry who they want” and still be right with God.
Of course, as Christians – none of us are without sin. And the intention in promoting traditional marriage isn’t to be haughty or look down on others – but to encourage one another to stay on the narrow road.
John Piper penned a response to the “same-sex” marriage battles taking place in the courts.
Desiring God reported:
“Christians know what is coming, not only because we see it in the Bible, but because we have tasted the sorrowful fruit of our own sins. We do not escape the truth that we reap what we sow. Our marriages, our children, our churches, our institutions — they are all troubled because of our sins.
The difference is: We weep over our sins. We don’t celebrate them. We don’t institutionalize them. We turn to Jesus for forgiveness and help. We cry to Jesus, “who delivers us from the wrath to come” (1 Thessalonians 1:10).”
God designed marriage to be the closest representation of Jesus’ love for the Church, His bride.
This covenant is not to be mocked or taken lightly.
After all – Jesus died for His bride – the Church!
But of course – the Enemy perverts all things good – and he misleads people (even Christians) to question God’s design for marriage…
… just like he confused Eve in the Garden of Eden and had her questioning, “Did God really say….” before taking a bite from the apple – Satan does the same thing today.
If you’ve ever been confused about what God has to say about marriage – consider praying and meditating on Scripture – or meeting with your pastor or other leaders from a solid Biblical church.
God designed marriage to be between one man and one woman – and His designs and plans are always perfect.
Do you believe marriage is between one man and one woman?
Why do you think so many people in religious circles are going against Scripture to encourage same-sex marriages?

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” – John 3:16-17
