During COVID-19, leftist politicians used the pandemic as a chance to shut down churches and silence Christians.
But thanks to the Supreme Court speaking out against the injustice, cities across the country are having to pay back the legal fees – and have promised to never target churches again.
And once you hear about the latest victory in the belly of the beast, you’re bound to be encouraged in the most incredible way.
DC is front-and-center of the political world.
So it should come as no surprise that during COVID-19 they tried to use their influence to shut down churches, hoping other cities would follow suit.
During COVID-19 they banned churches from gathering together with more than 100 people – even outside.
But while DC forced churches to abide by such restrictions, they held massive rallies in the city – which had more than 100 people.
The double standard was obvious – secular organizations and groups could do whatever they wanted, but churches could not.
Not willing to just give up, Capitol Hill Baptist Church (CHBC), a well-known church in DC, fought back.
And while DC still admits to “no wrongdoing,” they’ve agreed to pay back the $220,000 in legal fees CHBC spent to plead their case.
Praise God!
What an incredible victory.
But it gets even better!
Not only did DC agree to pay back the $220,000, but in their settlement, they agreed to never target churches in a separate way again – meaning churches can no longer receive harsher restrictions than secular organizations.
Christian Headlines reported:
“The District agrees that it will not enforce any current or future COVID-19 restrictions to prohibit CHBC from gathering as one congregation in the District of Columbia,” the settlement says.
“The District further agrees that, should it decide that new restrictions on religious gatherings are necessary during the current, or any future, COVID-19 (or variant thereof) public health emergency, it will not impose restrictions on CHBC that are more restrictive than the restrictions on comparable secular activities, as defined by the Supreme Court.”
The fact that DC actually put this in writing is a massive victory.
Praise God that CHBC stood up to the government and fought for the rights of churches.
Thanks to their efforts, they’ve preserved the rights of churches to gather for generations to come.
Other places around the country like California ended up owing nearly 2 million dollars in legal fees after tormenting churches with their oppressive mandates.
God-forbid we ever have another pandemic again, but, if for whatever reason, should places need to be closed, it’s encouraging to know churches won’t face harsher or stricter restrictions than the rest of society.
Praise God for the few and faithful who stood up for the rights of Christians everywhere.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” – John 3:16-17
