“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal…”
What do we mean when we say that everyone is equal?
One ministry, Created Equal, is working to show the nation that equality starts in the womb.
And their unique approach will give you hope for a pro-life future.
Since its founding in 2011, Created Equal has advocated for the unborn in places across the nation through its Justice Rides. These events are a chance to “create informed public debate about abortion.”
Those who participate in a Justice Ride “are trained to make a case against abortion” in a very specific way – they argue against abortion as a staggering societal injustice.
While there is — thankfully — a growing number of Christian pro-life organizations across the United States, Created Equal is unique in its approach to the issue.
The organization’s founder, Mark Harrington, sees abortion as, at its core, an issue of social injustice. “It’s ageism…by which young humans are killed daily for reasons we would not permit the killing of older (born) humans,” he says.
For those who claim to support social justice yet still advocate for abortions, Harrington’s statement presents a paradox indeed.
Many doctors now advise parents to abort babies who show signs of birth defects, disorders, or diseases while in the womb. Harrington points out that we would never dream of murdering an adult with Down Syndrome or spina bifida—so why is it considered acceptable to kill an unborn child with the same problems?
“We’re focusing the attention of America on injustice,” says Harrington.
Harrington took his inspiration for the Created Equal movement from the Freedom Riders of the 1960s. These courageous individuals worked to confront and expose the injustice of racism at the height of the Civil Rights Movement in America.
Men and women of all races participated in Freedom Rides around the country, boarding buses together to challenge laws concerning segregation on public transportation.
The Freedom Riders left a powerful legacy. As one Freedom Rider noted, “I sensed a power far greater than any one individual member. Since then I understand that the term is synergism, that the power of many is far greater than any individual.”
That’s the kind of power that Harrington wants to leverage through Justice Rides!
Created Equal’s Justice Riders travel to college campuses and city centers across the country, engaging people in conversations about the pain and injustice of abortion. In the process, they also share the hope and healing found in Jesus Christ.
Each Justice Ride is a life-changing experience for both the riders and those they engage.
“The Justice Ride may be over, but by no means am I done sharing the truth,” one rider said. He left a Justice Ride feeling well equipped to continue the conversation about abortion and God’s heart for justice throughout his life.
Together, the Justice Riders have talked to thousands of people about the truth of abortion.
Created Equal’s approach to the issue helps people understand the true gravity of abortion. Justice Riders refuse to shy away from the truth, showing images of the results of abortion as they engage in conversations.
One young man admitted, “From seeing these images today, I’ve changed my mind. I am no longer pro-choice.”
When faced with what abortion really looks like, he was unable to condone the act of murdering a baby. “Totally against abortion now…it’s a sad disgrace.”
This college student is only one of many who have been touched by the ministry of Created Equal. Harrington’s vision for the organization is to reach as many people as possible with the pro-life message.
“If, at the end of my life, I do not see a long line of young apologists I have equipped behind me, I will have failed,” says Harrington. He’s determined to unite people in defense of the rights of the unborn.
And the Justice Riders show no signs of stopping—the next ride is scheduled to start on February 28, 2020! Pray that it will be a fruitful event that exposes the injustice of abortion to many around the nation.
