In an attempt to exert control over the Chinese people, Communist China has done the unthinkable.
Instead of letting Christians worship Jesus as He’s written in the Bible – the Chinese government has rewritten the Bible – even going so far as to claim that Jesus referred to Himself as a “sinner.”
And once you hear Communist China’s version of the Gospel – you’re bound to be horrified.
China claims they allow Christians to worship “freely” in churches…
… but the truth is, all of the visible “Christian” churches in China are controlled by the Chinese government.
Meaning – the government dictates what preachers are allowed to preach – even altering the sacred Word of God to reflect their own communist beliefs.
In China’s latest attempt to malign the Gospel, they completely changed the end of the story about the adulteress woman who was about to be stoned to death until Jesus saved her life.
As Christians we know Jesus demonstrated His protective love for this adulterous woman, challenging her accusers to reflect on their own sin and throw the first stone if they found themselves sinless.
Of course, they all walked away because they knew they were not without their own sin, and Jesus showed grace to the woman, telling her to go and sin no more and letting her know she wasn’t condemned.
“And as they continued to ask him, he stood up and said to them, “Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her.” And once more he bent down and wrote on the ground.
But when they heard it, they went away one by one, beginning with the older ones, and Jesus was left alone with the woman standing before him.
Jesus stood up and said to her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?” She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said, “Neither do I condemn you; go, and from now on sin no more.” – John 8:7-11
But instead of allowing this beautiful story of grace and redemption to stand – Communist China changed the ending to Jesus actually referring to Himself as a sinner, and then stoning the woman!
Todd Nettleton with The Voice of the Martyrs shared the horrifying details on what China is forcing registered Christian churches to do.
Faithwire reported:
“In the Chinese government’s new version — purportedly observed in a textbook published in September 2020 — the crowd disperses, but then the text states, “When everyone went out, Jesus stoned the woman himself, and said, ‘I am also a sinner.’”
The transformed language directly aims at Jesus’ divinity, something Nettleton said is quite shocking.
“In one sense, it’s just like so arrogant to think, ‘I’m going to rewrite the story of Jesus’… but then you think about denying the deity of Christ,” he said. “If Jesus is a sinner, then he’s not God.”
You may wonder why Chinese Christians don’t just find a church not vetted by the state so they don’t have to deal with such censorship.
Well, they do.
The underground church in China is booming – with countless people coming to Christ.
It is only at these underground churches that the true Gospel of Jesus can be preached – without being watered-down or completely rewritten altogether.
But Christians choosing to worship underground know if they get busted – they could be killed.
Let us remember to pray for our Chinese brothers and sisters – that God may give them the strength to preach the pure and unaltered Gospel – and stand up to any opposition to His Word, whatever the cost.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” – John 3:16-17
