Saint Patrick is one of the most well-known historical figures in Christian history.
His story has been the subject of religious books, movies, and novels across the centuries.
And a brand-new film premiering this St. Patrick’s Day will tell the real story of his devotion to Christ!
CBN Films is set to release I Am Patrick: The Patron Saint of Ireland on March 17.
The film will be shown in select theaters for two nights in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day.
The film is a compelling and emotional retelling of the story of Patrick’s life and ministry.
Patrick was born in Britain near the turn of the fifth century.
As the son of a church official, Patrick grew up hearing the Word of God, but he chose to rebel against his parents and against God throughout his younger years.
God used a drastic turn of events to get ahold of Patrick’s heart, however.
When Patrick was a teenager, Irish pirates raided his English village, carrying him off to be a slave in Ireland. Patrick was sold to an Irishman who put him in charge of his sheep.
Patrick spent six lonely years as a herdsman in the bleak, harsh landscape of Ireland. He suffered greatly and nearly starved to death.
However, God moved in Patrick’s heart to lead him closer to the Gospel, and it was in his years of slavery in a country of pagans and druids that Patrick truly began to understand and seek God.
During these years of captivity, Patrick wrote his famous memoir, The Confession, in which he described his journey to faith.
“The love of God and his fear grew in me more and more, as did the faith,” wrote Patrick, “and my soul was [lifted up], so that, in a single day, I have said as many as a hundred prayers and in the night, nearly the same.”
“I prayed in the woods and on the mountain, even before dawn. I felt no hurt from the snow or ice or rain.”
Eventually, God sent Patrick a dream, telling him that “his ship was ready.” Patrick took a leap of faith and escaped his master’s clutches, finding a ship headed back to Britain.
Patrick was reunited with his family, who were overjoyed at his return. But before long, Patrick received another dream from God—one that would change his life forever.
God called Patrick to return to Ireland, the land of his captivity, in order to spread the Gospel among the pagans and druids there. It was a dangerous calling, one that nearly cost Patrick his life on numerous occasions.
I Am Patrick tells the full story of Patrick’s captivity, slavery, and subsequent calling to missionary work as “the patron saint of Ireland.”
The new docudrama offers a moving and thrilling glimpse into Patrick’s ministry and relationship with God, complete with beautiful cinematography and a star-studded cast of actors.
Most notably, well-known actor John Rhys-Davies will play the character of an elderly St. Patrick.
“He wasn’t even supposed to be in the film,” admitted Jarrod Anderson, the film’s director. “I actually asked him once I did the voiceover record. He’s got to play the part and I had the chance to ask him.”
Anderson continued, “And I said, ‘I know that it would be way beneath you, but would you consider actually playing the part?’ And [Rhys-Davies] said, ‘It would not be beneath me at all.’”
In an effort to fully illuminate the life of St. Patrick, Anderson and his team chose to feature historical re-enactments, interviews with historical experts, and passages from Patrick’s own writings throughout the film.
“From a life of comfort to enslavement to a faith that changed a nation, this is the true story of the saint you thought you knew,” said Anderson, who hopes the film will inspire conversations about missions work, persecution, and martyrdom.
I Am Patrick: The Patron Saint of Ireland will play for two nights only: March 17th and 18th! In conjunction with Fathom Events and in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day, CBN Films plans to show the docudrama in select theaters across the country.
