Christians continue to suffer brutal persecution under the Taliban regime and it is worse than anyone ever imagined.
And for women – things are even more bleak as they suffer kidnappings, sexual assault, and forced marriages against their will.
Here is a recent update of the state of Christians in Afghanistan and ways you can pray and intercede for them right now.
The media may not be reporting on Afghanistan anymore – but the chaos and destruction brought on by the Talban is still destroying lives.
Once the Taliban took over, Christians were forced underground into hiding – and if anyone dares to speak out against Islam or the Taliban they risk getting killed.
Global Christian Relief CEO and president David Curry recently spoke out about the horrific situation in Afghanistan and asked Christians to get on their knees in prayer.
Faithwire reported:
“The Taliban seized control of the government,” he told CBN’s Faithwire. “It’s been 18 months of the Taliban returning to a very draconian, medieval rule.”
Curry continued, “Their theology drives the way they see the world. It’s a medieval interpretation of Islam. Women can’t go to school, can’t hold jobs, females’ faces are covered.”
And that’s not all. Curry said there are “extreme, bizarre, brutal punishments” being waged against anyone who challenges Islam or the Taliban, with other extremist groups like the Islamic State trying to push the Taliban to even more depraved behavior.”
Women in Afghanistan knew this day was coming…
…which is why they were in tears once they learned the Taliban had gained control.
Fathers have resorted to selling their own daughters into sex slavery as they struggle to put food on the table to feed their families.
And women are treated as second-class citizens and are suffering in silent behind closed doors.
Curry has challenged Christians to not only remember Afghanistan in their prayers but to help support those on the front lines so they can get into Afghanistan and provide support to the local church.
Faithwire continued:
“We’ve got to start thinking about what we can do to help get Christians solidified, stabilized in the country, and maybe even think about how can we help and go into this country, this difficult area, and try to build the church and try to build our influence in the name of Jesus.”
Curry also encouraged prayer for persecuted Christians stuck in Taliban-controlled areas. But he kept returning to his call to build up the church there.
“A lot is going on that’s both brutal and bizarre,” Curry said. “And we need to do everything we can to strengthen the church.”
Please continue to pray and intercede for Christians in Afghanistan.
Pray the underground Christian churches in Afghanistan will continue to grow and thrive – and that what the enemy intended for harm will be used for good.
The good news is people are hungry for the truth – and many are turning to Jesus Christ for salvation and leaving Islam behind.
We know God is sovereign and can open doors no man can shut – so let us continue to pray the healing message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ will penetrate all throughout Afghanistan to the darkest corners of the country and a spiritual awakening will bring about change.
What message do you have for Christians in Afghanistan?
Will you commit to keeping them on your prayer list and interceding on their behalf?

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” – John 3:16-17
