Christian photographer Emilee Carpenter faces a $100,000 fine, the loss of her business license, and up to a year in jail.
Her crime?
Refusing to create pro-LGBT content or promote same-sex weddings.
Not only is she expected to photograph LGBT couples – but she’s required by law to create pro-LGBT content.
As a Christian, Emilee believes marriage is between one man and one woman, but New York won’t even let her convey her Christian beliefs on her own website.
However, Emilee isn’t cowering on the sidelines – she’s fighting back.
She recently filed suit in federal court against New York officials challenging the law.
A portion of the suit states:
“Specifically, New York laws require Emilee to create photographs and blogs celebrating same-sex marriage because she creates photographs and blogs celebrating opposite-sex marriage. The laws also prohibit Emilee from adopting an editorial policy consistent with her beliefs about marriage.
And the laws even make it illegal for Emilee to post statements on her business’s own website explaining her religious views on marriage or her reasons for only creating this wedding content.”
Emilee shouldn’t live in fear of going to jail or losing her business simply because she is a Christian who doesn’t believe in same-sex marriages.
But states like New York are utterly obsessed with promoting the LGBT agenda and are looking to attack and punish anyone who doesn’t agree.
Alliance Defending Freedom is currently representing Emilee and have put together quite the compelling case.
Faithwire reported:
“New York is attempting to compel Emilee to speak a message she disagrees with and not express her religious views on marriage,” said ADF Senior Counsel Jonathan Scruggs, director of the ADF Center for Conscience Initiatives.
“But the government cannot coerce artists to create messages against their will and intimidate them into silence just because it disagrees with their beliefs.”
Not to mention the double standard is striking.
Can you imagine New York forcing a pro-LGBT photographer to post a statement in support of traditional marriage?
Of course not.
But when it comes to the LGBT agenda – everyone must bow down or face consequences.
Christians should not be forced to violate their own convictions because of a bias law.
But the sad thing is, Christian photographers all around the country have been targeted in a similar way.
And it’s not just photographers.
We all remember the story about the Christian baker who had his entire life turned upside down.
But with Biden and his pro-LGBT agenda, we’re bound to see even more states empowered to target Christians with restrictive laws.
As Christians, while the culture has shifted, we must continue to stand strong for God’s design for marriage – whatever the cost.
Prayers to Emilee hoping she wins her case and is able to freely operate her business without violating her Christian convictions.
