Third-grader Lydia was told she had to wear a mask to enter her school, so she decided to wear her “Jesus Loves Me” mask to showcase her faith.
Never did she dream school officials would demand she remove her “offensive” mask or face expulsion.
Lydia complied and took off her mask – and then her story sparked not only a lawsuit, but the admiration of her peers who have since been inspired to now seek Jesus.
Sweet Lydia wasn’t trying to cause any problems at school, she simply loves the Lord and enjoyed wearing a mask that made her feel protected by Jesus, reports Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF).
And although other students were able to wear masks with slogans such as “Black Lives Matter,” Lydia was told she couldn’t wear her mask because political or religious messages weren’t allowed.
Naturally, her mother was upset and contacted school officials for an explanation.
The mother referenced the handbook, noting that it did not prohibit any religious messages.
Instead of apologizing for making a third-grader remove her “Jesus Loves Me” mask, the school pointed to a modified COVID-19 plan – which only included a restriction on religious masks after the incident had already taken place.
Not getting anywhere with school officials, the mom finally sought legal representation from ADF who was happy to take up the case and shared the importance of Lydia’s right to express her religious beliefs.
Alliance Defending Freedom reported:
“No public school student should be singled out for peacefully sharing her religious beliefs with fellow students,” said ADF Senior Counsel Tyson Langhofer, director of the ADF Center for Academic Freedom.
“Today’s students will be tomorrow’s legislators, judges, educators, and voters. That’s why it’s so important that public schools demonstrate the First Amendment values they are supposed to be teaching to students.”
Amen!
Yet again, public schools pick and choose which political issues they want to be involved in.
They’re seemingly okay with letting “transgender” students use whatever restroom or locker room they want and are happy to teach kindergarteners an anti-police curriculum.
Just like students at Lydia’s school were allowed to express themselves with Black Lives Matter gear, yet Lydia was banned from expressing her own beliefs.
But in His continued goodness, God still used the situation for good.
As it turns out, Lydia’s statement in wearing her mask caused a positive chain reaction that is impacting the next generation.
Several classmates wrote letters of support and one student wanted to purchase a mask just like hers, Faithwire reported.
Even more amazing, one of the older siblings of Lydia’s classmates was so curious and inspired at what was happening that she made the choice to read the entire Bible!
Praise the Lord!
The mom of the little girls who wrote the notes to encourage Lydia spoke on how amazed she was at what was taking place.
Faithwire reported:
“It’s powerful for my kids to see other kids being a witness for Christ and even living through some persecution for it,” wrote their mom.”
When we think of persecution, we often envision a dear brother or sister suffering for their faith halfway around the world.
However as this story shows, it’s happening right here in America, especially inside our public schools.
But as we know, the Word of God is stronger than any school bureaucrat.
They tried to silence Jesus, but His truth and love prevailed!
Cheers to sweet Lydia for loving Jesus and being bold enough to share her faith with her classmates!
And praise God for showing us all just some of the fruit produced by her love for Him.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” — John 3:16-17
