After ten years with a community, your roots grow pretty deep; especially in a church leadership setting, the impact of your presence becomes part of the atmosphere.
Bethel Music’s own Steffany Gretzinger has been deeply planted in the life and sound of Bethel for over 10 years.
Now she and her husband have announced that God’s new call to them is going to change things quite a bit.
Bethel Worship is a producer of many best loved songs across the nation.
What would Sunday morning church be without melodies like “No Longer Slaves”, “King of My Heart”, or “Reckless Love”?
And these are only some recent additions to the Bethel song collection.
One unique aspect to Bethel Church in Redding, CA is their home-grown music.
God has established this body as a hotbed for inspiration and talent. He chooses to give to the movements of God that sweep across America through their songwriters and musicianship.
These spirit-lifting sounds bring unity, peace and joy.
Of course, this would mean that the voices amplified with mics become an integral part of what happens. The voice that resounded in Redding may be what changes the whole day for a person in Florida on the brink of soul destruction.
Steffany Gretzinger has faithfully responded to God’s call toward the Bethel Music ministry for 10 years. Her contribution to what is produced there is miraculous, to put it mildly.
Gretzinger began at Bethel through their school of ministry in 2008. Quickly she became aware that God had called her to Bethel not only for the school but for the church.
As both a songwriter and vocal musician, “Gretzinger is renowned for her uninhibited and passionate style of worship leading, often bursting into a period of spontaneous singing. A prolific songwriter, she co-wrote the 2015 smash hit, ‘Pieces,’ and has recorded two solo studio albums. Steffany’s latest record, ‘Blackout,’ was released on March 30, 2018″, as Christian Headlines reports.
Now Steffany has announced she is moving to Nashville to pursue recording as a Christian artist full-time.
Steffany did not post publicly about this calling on her and her husband until after it had been made known to the congregation at Bethel. Senior Pastor Bill Johnson was part of the conversation that took place publicly. On the last Sunday Gretzinger would be leading worship at Bethel, Pastor Bill announced their departure with a blessing.
After the set, he and the media team posted their blessing publicly, on April 26th: “This past weekend we blessed and sent off Steffany Gretzinger, who with her family has felt the call of God to Nashville. Steff, your faith to follow Jesus anywhere He takes you both in worship and in life has been a constant inspiration.”
“You’ve demonstrated to a generation the freedom, joy, peace and purity that come when we abandon ourselves fully to Jesus. Your presence in Redding will be sorely missed, but we know that what you carry is too powerful for us to keep just for ourselves. We’re excited to see how Nashville is going to be impacted by the power of God in you. Global family, we know you will miss her too!”
Of course, the Gretzingers were slow and careful in making this decision definite, because so much wonderful outpouring of God had taken place on account of their faithful attendance to the congregation of Bethel. They both received and poured out in beautiful ways.
Regarding her last morning living with the Bethel family as a worship leader, she wrote to her Instagram: “The rumors are true. After 10 years, The Lord is sending us to Nashville, TN.”
“It’s been a long time coming, but we were in no way hurrying to leave this house, this home. Sunday night was the last set I will leave before we move, and I was sent out with blessing and prophesy and flowers. I am reminded once more how lavishly God honors our obedience.”
The response of the Christian community has been mixed with blessings and some sadness. When people realize that this is fully a response to God’s call … no further questions are needed. The joy of seeing where God allows her journey with Him and her family is equally expressed.
In comments, several well revered music leaders of the Church have voiced their support and blessings:
Darlene Zschech: “You are pure sunshine and the whole world has sensed a shift in our personal worship because of your faithfulness. Great days ahead, beautiful daughter.”
Jeremy Riddle (of Bethel Worship): “Well done Sis.”
Melissa Helser: “You have truly taught a generation what it means to fully abandon to Jesus. We love so much. Adventure awaits!!!” And she additionally thanked Steffany for her “willingness to pour it all out every time”.
While even Gretzinger isn’t sure what God intends to do with bringing her family to TN, she is ready to continue on the path that brought her to Bethel in the first place. For her, God isn’t just steering the ship, He is also the ship, the provision, and the compass. May God bless Gretzinger as she journeys forward and continues to bless our Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus.
