It’s every mother’s worst nightmare to be told “your baby has no chance of surviving.”
For a mother to carry a baby in her womb, give birth, and then be told her baby won’t make it – there’s just nothing more heartbreaking.
So when Beth Kern was given the tough news about her son, she grieved. But then God performed a miracle in her baby’s life.
Little Richard was born early.
And we’re not talking a few weeks early.
We’re talking 19 weeks early.
Weighing just 11.9 ounces, little Richard was born prematurely at 21 weeks and 2 days due to complications his mother had during her pregnancy.
He was so small and fragile, yet his little heart was beating.
But the doctor’s told Beth he had a “zero” chance at surviving.
And with his premature birth and tiny body…
… it seemed this was the case.
But praise God, his parents never gave up hope.
As little Richard stayed in the NICU, he continued to grow stronger and stronger each day.
To the doctor’s amazement, Richard became healthy enough to actually be discharged from the hospital!
His mother couldn’t even believe what was happening as just months ago it all seemed impossible.
“The day Richard was discharged from the NICU was such a special day. I remember picking him up out of his crib and just holding him with tears in my eyes,” Kern said.
“I couldn’t believe this was the same little boy that once was so sick, that I feared he may not survive. The same little boy that once fit in the palm of my hand, with skin so translucent that I could see every rib and vessel in his tiny body. I couldn’t help but squeeze him and tell him how proud I was of him.”
And while Beth was grateful to be able to take her precious boy home, doctors were stunned at this medical miracle.
There was no medical explanation as to how he was able to survive being born at just 21 weeks and 2 days old.
But by God’s grace, baby Richard is still growing stronger, in fact, he just recently had the blessing of celebrating his 1st birthday – and not in a hospital bed, but in the loving arms of his parents at home!
Praise the Lord!
But this is how our God works.
He takes what seems like an impossible situation and does His work – all to glorify His name.
So many people are quick to give up hope, but stories like these show just how powerful God is.
He is a Miracle Worker.
We wish Richard and his family continued blessings from our Heavenly Father as they enjoy their time together as a family.
To God be the glory.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” – John 3:16-17
