America continues to evacuate United States citizens and Afghan locals who partnered with our troops to help fight against terrorism…
… but not everyone gets to leave enemy territory.
In fact, Afghan Christians who are doing the Lord’s work in underground churches are left behind – and they are pleading with the world not to forget them.
While some countries are hostile to Christians – Afghanistan is a whole other level.
There’s a reason Open Doors lists Afghanistan as the second most dangerous country in the entire world for Christians to live.
In Afghanistan, when a Muslim converts to Christianity, it’s an automatic death sentence.
In fact, just merely having anything Christian on one’s phone is grounds for execution.
It’s brutal.
Throughout the past 20 years, those who converted from Islam to Christianity have become part of the underground church movement.
It’s always been dangerous to be a Christian in Afghanistan, but now that the Taliban has regained control and is seeking revenge, it’s a new kind of persecution.
Christian pastors have already been warned that they’ve been identified and the Taliban is coming for them.
In a stunning video produced by Global Catalyst Ministries (a Christian ministry to Muslims) – one Christian man who’s been left behind shares his heart at how devastating the situation is on the ground.
Christian Headlines reported:
“Hello dear sisters and brothers,” the man says. “… Today in Afghanistan is the first day of Taliban rule. I don’t know what the future of this country will be. We are not able to control our emotions, because we’ve worked so hard for 20 years.
All of our work over the past 20 years has been lost overnight. Only God understands how much pain we have and how broken our hearts are.”
One can’t even imagine the pain he’s feeling watching everything in the underground church literally change overnight.
In his tearful testimony video, he admits he feels abandoned by the world and doesn’t know how they’re going to survive.
Christian Headlines continues:
“Every precious thing of value in our nation is now destroyed. The whole world has abandoned us. Those who said they support us, have now abandoned us to the worst situation imaginable.
I don’t know what is going to happen to us. Are we supposed to live alongside the Taliban’s rule? My friends, we record this video today as a testimony.
We want to remain in history. We want to be remembered by our friends and loved ones that today we have been left in the field by ourselves.”
Absolutely gut-wrenching.
Friends, as we go about our days, we must remember to pray for our brothers and sisters in Afghanistan.
Pray that God reminds them of the TRUTH – that He is there with them and will never leave or forsake them.
And pray that somehow, someway, they are encouraged to stay strong in their faith and not waver.
Let us intercede for fellow believers in Afghanistan and pray God will continue to rise up even more Christians so they know they aren’t alone.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” – John 3:16-17
