A major pro-life movement is rising up as people are called to action in response to more and more radical pro-abortion legislation that’s being passed and proposed across the country.
But this time, a surprising group is fighting for the innocent lives of the unborn and is marching to the front lines.
And really, who better to advocate for the victims of abortion than actual abortion survivors?
The Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act is a piece of legislation no one thought America would ever need, but we were wrong.
This bill would have given medical care to infants delivered alive after an abortion.
The bill needed at least 60 votes in favor of it out of the 100 United States Senators to see that an infant wouldn’t be left to struggle taking his last breath on a cold metal table, alone. In a heartbreaking outcome, only 53 Senators decided to follow their good conscience.
That means that almost half of the men and women representing this country chose to allow infanticide to continue.
It is surprising that there are even sides to a debate like this. How could someone allow an infant to die right in front of them, and not do everything in their power to protect the sweet little soul?
Psalms 82:3-4 makes it clear what someone is to do when confronted with a baby in need:
“Give justice to the weak and the fatherless; maintain the right of the afflicted and the destitute. Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.”
Many of the Senators who voted against the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protections Act held to the claim that such legislation “isn’t necessary,” and that the “problem doesn’t exist” because children rarely survive the attempted murders, according to Focus on the Family.
But sometimes they do survive!
Children born alive, after a gruesome attempted murder, should have the right to life. Babies should not be left to die alone and in pain, because a deranged medical “professional” botched an assassination.
There are two very special ladies who are living proof that their lives were meant to be; that they had a constitutional right to receive the standard of care that any other human in distress deserves.
Melissa Ohden and Claire Culwell have survived unthinkable acts of violence. Now adults, they tell the stories of how their mothers tried to have them aborted, but they were not laid to rest.
Melissa’s mother went into a facility for a saline abortion, according to Focus on the Family, where a saline solution is injected into the amniotic sac, poisons the baby. Days went by with this poison inside the womb, attempting to stop a beautiful life before it had the chance to flourish.
After almost a week of this “treatment,” Melissa’s mother was induced into premature labor. The doctors, nurses, and Melissa’s mother herself all expected to deliver a lifeless baby, but that wasn’t the case. She was born alive!
The nurse on the scene attested that Melissa was placed alive on a metal surgical table, and then left to die. “She kept gasping for breath. I couldn’t leave her there to die,” the nurse reported on Focus on the Family, grabbing that helpless little life and rushing her to the NICU.
Claire’s mother was only a mere child when she was coerced to have an abortion performed on her child. Weeks went by in torment as she struggled with the events that ensued. That is until she received a call from the doctor who had murdered her first baby, telling Claire that there was still a life growing inside her.
You see, Claire’s mother was pregnant with twins, and the doctor didn’t see the other baby inside the womb, sparing a precious life.
Sadly, Claire is not an isolated case. More women than one would expect are coerced by a loved one or medial professional into taking the life of their child. Focus on the Family reports:
“Forty-eight percent of women who have had an abortion report that they felt coerced into it. If we’re going to have a conversation about women’s rights, then we have to have an honest discussion about what women are experiencing.”
Melissa and Claire are invaluable proof that their lives mattered, that they had a story to tell, a story that would have been silenced if they were not saved after an abortion attempt. There are still lives out there that need a voice to be rescued from the cold surgical tables inside abortion facilities.
Melissa has gone on to become the founder of The Abortion Survivors Network, educating the public on failed abortions, while offering those survivors the support they need to know their lives matter.
In a captivating book titled, “You Carried Me,” Melissa tells her story. Along with being a writer, advocate, and public speaker, she also enjoys time with her two beautiful children and supportive husband.
Also, speaking on the front lines of pro-life events, Claire has gone on to have four little blessings. She has spoken on Capitol Hill and beyond, letting the country know of the unspeakable acts against humanity that occur in those horrifying abortion clinic rooms.
Living to fight another day, they each use every precious moment as a witness to God’s grace on their lives, and the realities of the pro-death movement.
Left to die, but not forgotten, lives just like Claire and Melissa’s need a voice to stand up for their right to life. Support The Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, and legislation like it to see that our country’s innocent children are given the care they deserve.
