When little Richard was born at only 21 weeks, doctors gave him a zero chance of survival.
After all, he weighed just under a pound and couldn’t even breathe on his own due to his underdeveloped lungs.
But Richard’s parents never gave up hope. And now they have their own Christmas miracle to share with the world.
When Richard was born, he needed severe medical intervention in order to survive, including a ventilator to help him breathe and nutrition supplemented through his tiny veins.
One can’t imagine the fear and worry his new parents faced as doctors told them their little one would not survive – not to mention the pain they felt watching their tiny baby hooked up to all kinds of machines.
But Richard’s parents never gave up hope. In fact, every single day, they made the drive to the hospital to be with him.
And then the unthinkable happened.
Little Richard started to gain strength, slowly, but he was making progress.
Doctors were amazed at how well he was improving and said they’d never seen anything like it before.
As reported by Live Action:
“Dr. Stacy Kern, his physician, noted in an interview that Richard is the youngest patient she’s ever cared for.
Though he was born at just the “halfway point” of a typical pregnancy, Dr. Kern celebrated Richard’s strength. “It’s incredibly rare for a baby at 21 and two-sevenths weeks to be resuscitated, let alone survive,” Kern said. “I think Richard has surprised everyone at Children’s Minnesota. He’s taught us all how resilient tiny babies like him can be.”
Of course, as every Christian knows, it is God who sustained little Richard through this harrowing time.
So many doctors often jump the gun and advocate for abortion or quench hope in parents by telling them their little one will never make it.
And while we do live in a fallen world with sickness and death, Richard’s story reveals the truth – that God is more powerful than any doctor’s diagnosis and He gives us hope in the midst of suffering.
God sent His Son into the world to provide eternal hope for all who believe and trust in the name of Jesus.
And in His kindness and mercy, God continues to give comfort and hope even in the midst of gut-wrenching circumstances.
Using their almost tragic experience for good, Richard’s family has started their own Facebook ministry to help other parents whose babies are born premature.
What a blessing that little Richard gets to spend his first Christmas out of the hospital and at home with his loving and faithful family!
And while his medical needs are still severe – and only God knows what the future holds – for now, his parents are basking in the joy of spending this Christmas with their precious son, safe and sound at home in their loving arms.
Praise Jesus for this unexpected Christmas miracle!
