On this somber day, Americans remember all of those who sacrificed their lives to ensure we could enjoy the earthly freedoms we cherish and hold dear today.
While on this day we pay special tribute and honor to all those who have served our nation – Memorial Day should cause us to truly take pause – and reflect.
As we remember those who served our country and laid down their lives – let this day point us all to Jesus – the one Who first laid down His life for us.
As you go about your day today, take a moment and pray.
Pray For Those Who Are Mourning
Some forget the true significance of Memorial Day. They get so focused on swimming in the newly-opened pool and cooking burgers on the grill that they forget it was only on the backs of our service men and women that they can enjoy living in a free nation.
But there are widows and mothers still grieving over the loss of their child or beloved spouse – and they haven’t forgotten the sorrow of today.
There are children who have lost their father or mother – and families ripped apart by the horrors of war. Let us pray for God to comfort them – and fill Him with His everlasting peace.
Father God, we pray for all of those who have lost loved ones fighting to defend our nation. Our hearts break over those who are grieving – and missing those they love. We pray for Your supernatural peace to fill their hearts – and comfort them. We know whether the loss is recent or decades ago – the hole is still deep. Lord we know only You can bind up their wounds – and we pray for your healing touch on those who are hurting – may they turn to you, in Jesus’ name – Amen.
Remember Our Persecuted Brothers And Sisters Around The World
As we gather in church each Sunday and in homes throughout the week for Bible Study – know that in other countries, our brothers and sisters are being slaughtered for their faith.
They aren’t able to gather freely – or if they do – they know they could be killed.
Sometimes it can be easy to take our freedoms for granted – but Memorial Day should implore us all to solemnly remember that freedom isn’t free.
Let us take a moment and pray for those who are living in a persecuted land.
Dear Heavenly Father – we praise you for the gift to gather freely to worship you – but our hearts ache for our persecuted brothers and sisters around the world who aren’t able to or forced to go underground. God we pray you make away for them to meet – and protect them as they sing and praise your name. May they be bold to share your truth – and may countless others come to you from their witness – we pray all this in Jesus’s name – Amen.
Praise God For Sending His Son
As believers, we know true and everlasting freedom is only found in Jesus Christ. This world and everything in it will pass away – but those who have accepted Jesus as Lord can live in the freedom of knowing He paid the ultimate price.
God we stand before you in humility – in awe of how you sent Jesus to pay the price for our sins and satisfy a debt we could never pay. We pray you will continue to lead people to worship You – and accept the greatest gift we could ever have – Jesus. We thank you and we pray all this in Jesus’ name – Amen.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” – John 3:16-17
