Serving a prison sentence can be a lonely and frightening experience – especially during a pandemic when all visitation from the outside world is abruptly cut off.
But by the grace of God, an incredible mobilization effort placed over 100,000 Life Recovery Bibles into the hands of weary prisoners.
For the first time ever, many of those behind bars felt a renewed sense of hope – and just wait until you hear the powerful way God’s Word has changed the dynamics of the prison scene.
The Life Recovery Bible is a Bible based on the 12-step recovery model.
And since so many prisoners struggle with addiction – which led them down a dark path of crime – the Life Recovery Bible helps them see that only Jesus can set them free.
By pointing to God as the true source of recovery, for the first time ever, prisoners are breaking the chains of bondage and addiction through God’s power and grace.
The incredible scene of transformed lives has been noticed all throughout the prison system – and the guards are in awe.
You see, when the lockdown first began, many prison guards feared that prisoners would become full of rage and violence – especially being unable to have visitation with their loved ones.
But nothing was further from the truth.
As it turns out, many prisoners were requesting the Word of God in an unprecedented number, and a supernatural sense of peace filled their cells.
James Ackerman, CEO of Prison Fellowship, spoke about the wonderful miracle God was doing in the lives of these prisoners.
The Christian Post reports:
“The feedback we’ve gotten is that these Bibles are helping to keep people calm and to keep people focused on either strengthening their faith for those who are already believers … but also encouraging others who have never considered the Christian faith before to really sit down and crack open that Bible and read it,” Ackerman said. “It is creating an environment of calmness in the prison that the Department of Corrections feared might not be there.”
“God provided us all we needed to meet the demand to supply those 100,000 Bibles,” he added. “That, to me, it just shows you when the Lord is in something, He not only opens the door to create the demand, but He provides the resources needed to fulfill the expectation.”
Our God is a God of second chances – and He wants these prisoners to know He is there if they simply turn to Him.
It’s only the supernatural peace of God that can take a stressful situation like COVID-19 and use it for His glory.
But that’s our God!
Cheers to Prison Fellowship for being on the frontlines doing the Lord’s work.
Let’s pray even more prisoners open up God’s Word to hear what He has to say to them through Scripture.
Our God is a God who can do miracles and transform lives.
And He will restore the years that the locusts have eaten if we repent and make Jesus Lord of our lives.
Praise Him for His redemptive grace!
