London Pastor John Sherwood was preaching a public sermon on marriage, pointing to God’s design in Genesis which states marriage is between one man and one woman.
But as he preached, suddenly authorities yanked him off his pulpit and forcefully placed him in handcuffs, bruising his body in the process.
His crime? Preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ and defending traditional marriage.
Pastor Sherwood wasn’t saying anything hateful or yelling out slurs.
He was simply doing his duty as a pastor to proclaim God’s truth – which also means preaching God’s truth for marriage.
God designed marriage to be a sacred covenant between one man and one woman, and while society has perverted His truth, it doesn’t change the purpose of marriage.
But apparently those listening to his sermon found his preaching to be “homophobic” and were upset he didn’t endorse same-sex marriages.
But instead of letting the Pastor have the freedom to express his religious convictions, London authorities decided to arrest him.
The Daily Mail reported:
“Mr. Sherwood, a pastor for 35 years, said: ‘I wasn’t making any homophobic comments, I was just defining marriage as a relationship between a man and a woman. I was only saying what the Bible says – I wasn’t wanting to hurt anyone or cause offence.
‘I was doing what my job description says, which is to preach the gospel in open air as well as in a church building.
‘When the police approached me, I explained that I was exercising my religious liberty and my conscience. I was forcibly pulled down from the steps and suffered some injury to my wrist and to my elbow. I do believe I was treated shamefully. It should never have happened.’”
Sadly, these are the times we live in.
Those who speak God’s truth are silenced and often arrested.
London authorities claim the Pastor violated the Public Order Act and was causing “alarm and distress.”
But of course, this is just an excuse to silence Christians from speaking God’s truth.
Leftist activists gather all around the world pushing their pro-LGBT and pro-abort agenda…
… and nobody shuts them down.
But a sweet grandfather and pastor of 35 years who was simply honoring God by preaching on traditional marriage was physically roughed up and arrested.
Although it’s hard to swallow – we shouldn’t be surprised these trials are happening.
After all, the Bible warns us we will be persecuted for following Christ. And if we are truly taking a stand for Him and staying faithful to His principles, it will clash with a decaying culture who rejects God and His authority.
Cheers to Pastor Sherwood for holding fast to his convictions and speaking God’s truth, even in opposition.
God will reward those who remain faithful to Him!
