Marriage takes God being at the center to make it work.
How can you build a solid Christ-centered marriage that lasts a lifetime?
Here are 5 ways:
1. Faith
Faith is the cornerstone of your Christ-centered marriage.
When you build a marriage upon the sturdy foundation of faith, you create a strong marriage.
Faith gives you and your spouse strength to withstand the storms that try to destroy your marriage. It surrounds your marriage with the strength of the Lord’s protection.
1 Timothy 1:19 says: “Holding on to faith and a good conscience, which some have rejected and so have suffered shipwreck with regard to the faith.”
When you hold onto your faith, you hold onto your marriage.
Tear down the old foundation built on fear and rebuild a strong foundation of faith, knowing that through Christ, you can have a Christ-centered marriage.
2. Trust
Trust is the glue of your Christ-centered marriage.
When you build a marriage upon the steadfast foundation of trust, you establish an enduring marriage.
Trust gives you and your spouse endurance to resist the temptations that come against your marriage. It covers your marriage foundation with the power of the Lord’s will.
Psalm 91:2 helps you declare trust over your marriage: “This I declare about the LORD: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him.”
When you declare trust over your marriage, you trust in each other.
Remove the walls built on mistrust and rebuild solid walls with trust so that you can learn to be forgiving and have a Christ-centered marriage.
3. Love
Love is the structure of your Christ-centered marriage.
When you build a marriage upon the solid foundation of love, you form a powerful marriage.
Love gives you and your spouse willpower to overcome anything that rocks your marriage. It envelops your marriage foundation with the determination of the Lord’s courage.
I Corinthians 13:4 says: “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.”
When you always give love, your marriage is filled with love for one another.
Eliminate the decaying foundation built on animosity and rebuild a flourishing foundation of love so you can live a Christ-centered marriage.
4. Compassion
Compassion is the fabric of your Christ-centered marriage.
When you build a marriage upon the stable foundation of compassion, you design a kind marriage. Compassion gives you and your spouse grace to keep anything from forming against your marriage. It wraps your marriage with the spirit of the Lord’s heart.
Jude 1:2 offers you mercy for your marriage. “Mercy, peace and love be yours in abundance.” When you show compassion, you give mercy in your marriage.
Eradicate the crumbling walls of harshness and rebuild walls of empathy so that with Christ, you can live a Christ-centered marriage.
5. Honesty
Honesty is the backbone of your Christ-centered marriage.
When you support a marriage with a firm foundation of honesty, you build a trusting marriage.
Honesty gives you and your spouse openness to understand how to have a positive relationship. It seals your marriage foundation with the truth of the Lord’s words.
II Chronicles 19:19 gives direction for your marriage: “He commanded them: “Carry out your duties with respect for the LORD, with honesty, and with pure motives.””
When you practice honesty, you have respect in your marriage.
Demolish the exterior of dishonesty and rebuild an exterior of respect so you can live out a Christ-centered marriage.
When you feel your marriage is falling apart because of a rocky foundation, follow these five principles of a Christ-centered marriage and rebuild your marriage foundation with faith, trust, love, compassion, and honesty.
