In a world that seeks to pull our children away from the light and into the darkness – many parents are wondering how to fight back.
And while supplemental Christian programs are great – nothing replaces getting back to the basics – like reading the Bible and praying together.
So if you’re wondering how to teach your child about Jesus among a world desperately trying to pull them away – here are a few ways to get started.
Read The Bible Together
Develop the habit of reading the Bible together every day with your children.
For the little ones, you can read a story from a children’s picture Bible – teaching your child at a young age about the character of God and His promises.
Older kids may do well with a deeper dive into Scripture – not only “hearing” it, but learning what the text means – and how to apply it.
Teaching your child this Spiritual discipline at a young age will set them up for success as they grow in their walk with the Lord.
Keep Them In A Christian Community
We are not meant to do life alone!
Being surrounded by other believers is a mutually beneficial relationship that will teach your children what it means to “do life” with other Christians.
Whether your child is in a Christian school or a youth program at church, it’s crucial that they develop relationships with others who are on the same path as they are.
This means that, as the parent, you too must have a network of Christians around you – as what the Bible teaches is true– iron sharpens iron.
Pray With And For Them
In addition to gathering with your children to read the Bible every day – it’s never too late to teach them how to pray.
Prayer is a powerful way to communicate with our Heavenly Father, and teaching your child at a young age that they can always talk to God directly – and cry out to Him – will, hopefully, set up a discipline that will carry over into their adult years.
Not only is teaching your child to pray important, but praying with them is also a special and sacred act.
Through your prayers, they’ll learn what it means to express gratitude and ask for repentance – and how to lament and how to praise.
Never underestimate the power of prayer.
Don’t Give Up
The world may be gunning for our children, but remember, light is always stronger than darkness.
As they grow older, you may not be able to stop them from doubting God – or even walking away from the faith.
Ultimately, they will have to make their own decision whether to follow God or not – but as it depends on you – you can do your part to teach them about Jesus.
There’s nothing more beautiful than the day your child accepts Jesus as their own personal Lord and Savior.
We pray that families around the world will gather together and study God’s Word and that many more children will be adopted into His heavenly kingdom!
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” – John 3:16-17
