“This bill destroys the fundamental religious freedom on which America was founded.”
“This bill is unpatriotic and dangerous. The misnamed Equality Act has nothing to do with equality and is the most serious threat to life and liberty ever proposed by Congress.”
“This bill needs to be stopped in the Senate. If this bill becomes law, the consequences are staggering.”
“No one who voted for the misnamed Equality Act deserves to serve in Congress.”
Yet, these eight Republicans voted for it.
This past Friday, Nancy Pelosi’s so-called Equality Act was passed through the House of Representatives.
To many, this was no surprise as extreme liberals have taken charge of the House after last year’s midterm elections.
What did come as a surprise, though, was the fact that eight Republicans went against the norm for their party and actually supported the bill.
Here is a list of all eight of them:
Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania
(202) 225-4276
John Katko of New York
(202) 225-3701
Susan W. Brooks of Indiana
(202) 225-2276
Mario Diaz-Blart of Florida
(202) 225-4211
Will Hurd of Texas
(202) 225-4511
Tom Reed of New York
(202) 225-3161
Elise Stefanik of New York
(202) 225-4611
Greg Walden of Oregon
(202) 225-6730
With a nice sounding name like the Equality Act, nothing really sounds amiss. Shouldn’t we want equality? What’s the big deal? Why are conservatives, Christians, and many others in such an uproar over the act?
Well, the “Equality Act” has very little to do with actual equality.
In fact, it seems to take more rights than it gives and it sets many up with a view of a controlled and oppressive future.
The Equality Act was introduced to the U.S. House and the U.S. Senate on March 13, 2019. Those in support of the bill are saying that it proposes equal rights for gays, lesbians, and transgenders.
This act will actually do the opposite of what its name suggests. The rights of some will be put above the rights of others.
In fact, one of the goals of this act is to repeal the Religious Freedom Restoration Act of 1993, meaning not only that religious institutions, even churches, will not be able to have a say on the sexual morality of their employees based on their religious beliefs, but also that people will not be able to use their religious beliefs anymore to stand against what they do not believe in.
Another thing that this bill will do is eliminate all male and female bathrooms so that if a man wants to go into the women’s restroom all he has to say is that he identifies as a woman and he will have all access to the women’s restroom.
This means that a man who is physically stronger than a woman would have legal access to a place where he could easily overpower her.
Not only this, but the bill takes away the work and struggle that women went through to get equal rights to men. Christians and feminists alike are fighting against this bill due to this fact.
The “Equality Act” would make it legal for men who identify as women to play in women’s sports and to receive grants, loans, scholarships and other certifications that are specifically awarded to women.
So what else could this bill possibly have in it to take away more rights?
Well, this bill infringes on one of the strongest and most unalienable rights of all. A right given to us straight from God: the right to be a parent and to decide what we believe is best for our child.
That’s right, this bill takes away a parent’s right to choose the best medical care for their children. How?
Well, if a child decides that they would rather be a different gender, then all they have to do is tell a doctor and the process of changing genders will begin, without the parent being involved at all.
Yep, a parent cannot even make the child wait to make sure that is what the child wants for sure, no matter their religious preference.
In short, an eleven-year-old can go ask the doctor for a sex change and, no matter what that doctor or the parents believe, they must start the “sex change” process or face legal consequences.
So what happens to the bill now that it has passed the House?
Well, it still must be voted on in the Senate next and then be signed by the President.
The good news is that many do not expect it to pass through the Senate because it is Republican-controlled and they tend to lean more toward conservative beliefs.
However, the bad news is that if some Republicans voted for this bill in the House of Representatives, we may see the same thing happen in the Senate.
Still, a senior Trump administration official released a statement in which he stated that the Trump administration does not support the Equality Act so even if it manages to get passed in the Senate, it would likely receive a veto by President Trump.
“The Trump administration absolutely opposes discrimination of any kind and supports the equal treatment of all; however, this bill in its current form is filled with poison pills that threaten to undermine parental and conscience rights.”
Obviously they can see the ways in which the act is unconstitutional, as it attempts to take away freedoms that are God-given.
So what can we do to help block this act from gaining any more momentum?
Should Christians sit back and watch their rights get pulled out from under them? I think not!
So, when do we as Christians stand up and say “enough is enough!”? Many of us have been quiet for far too long. Let’s shout it from the roof tops! We are in danger and this is apparent when a bill like the “Equality Act” is favored across the country.
Also, most important of all, we must pray for the future of our country and that its leadership be wise, that our counsel comes from God, and that it takes us in a Godly direction. We must pray for a revival and a return to the core Christian beliefs that this country was founded on.
Another thing you can do is call your senator and tell them that you believe that they should vote against the Equality Act.
Government representatives need to know what those they are representing believe so they can stay in good standing with those who vote for them.
If enough people chime in against this bill, we have a good chance of helping to stomp it out.
So, let us continue to pray and work toward the goal of a God-loving, moral country.
